Early start
Our alarm clock went off at 5.00 this morning. Usually it goes off at 7.00. But it wasn't a mistake. We really did have to be up that early.
Long time readers might remember our French Exchange student. Well, Daughter has gone to France for a week as the other part of the exchange. And she had to be at school for 6.15 to be on the coach to the airport. Bearing in mind how little English F spoke I have a feeling that Daughter might find the week rather hard work. But hopefully she'll enjoy it and get a lot out of it. We've already been speaking to her on MSN and everything seems to be OK.
Tomorrow is a big day for Son. It's his last day in school. He'll be on study leave from now on and the only time he'll return to school is to take exams. If he doesn't stay on and do A Levels it could be his last proper day of school ever. Scary thought.
It also means that Sue and I won't have the house to ourselves during the day until Son either goes back to school or goes to college. Also scary thought. I guess we've been quite spoiled having the house to ourselves on Sue's days off. No more R&R in the bedroom all morning.
Son had an eye test today. It wasn't an ordinary eye test, though. He's dyslexic and the school carried out some tests on him recently and said that he might benefit from special glasses. Shame they took this long to come to that conclusion. Anyway, the optician agreed. He's prescribed yellow tinted lenses. There is nothing wrong with his eyesight as such, but he has a problem with focussing properly and the yellow tint will help him by making black text on a white background stand out more clearly. With the tinted glasses there was a 10% improvement in his reading accuracy. He's also been given special exercises to do to help him focus.
I had new reading glasses today too. I lost mine a while ago. So now I won't have to keep borrowing Sue's. Up until about 5 years ago I had pretty much perfect vision. But I guess age has finally caught up with me on that score.
And with one thing and another I had to write out a sizeable cheque to the optician today. Oh well. In Son's case at least it will be worth it - I hope.

That's too bad about not having those mornings to yourselves anymore. Maybe he'll get a job for the summer?
I've heard about the tinted glasses. Apparently there's all sorts of different colours and they test you for the one that works best for you. It's so interesting! But from what I hear quite expensive!
I know you guys are going hate not having your morning R&R sessions but just think - when you do get that time back you guys will be all over each other and the passion will be fantastic!! Not that it isn't already always fantastic but maybe you get what I mean..??...
I've never heard the whole tinted glasses thing but I sure hope it works for him! And hope the daughter has a great time too!
I never realized that yellow tint could do that! Very interesing, Ed!
This morning was rather nice though, wasn't it?
