Fixed

Well, I'm pleased to say that the roofers have been back to fix our roof and I sincerely hope that's the end of it. Typically, we haven't had any rain since they finished so it hasn't been tested yet. Fingers crossed on that one.

And after about four visits the plumber finally fixed our central heating boiler so we can, at last, use the shower in our bathroom again. Thank goodness for that - it's been a real pain having to use the shower in Daughter's bathroom.

Today is the end of the financial year for our business and I went to see our accountant yesterday. I was stealing myself for a large tax bill. It always seems to be the same every year - I know the tax bill is coming and I set aside money for it but by the time it's due to be paid the money that I've set aside has got eaten into so we end up struggling to pay. Anyway, this year it turns out that the Inland Revenue actually owes us money. So that was a welcome surprise. Although how easy it's going to be to get the money out of them is another matter.

I know that in the US people often seem to get tax refunds at the end of the tax year but it's not the way it's usually done in the UK.

So three lots of good news in one day. Perhaps now we'll be able to afford to pay the bill for fixing the heating and the roof. And the accountant.

Anyway, a couple of news stories that caught my eye recently…

First of all, it seems that it is now legal to sunbathe naked in your garden, even if it's overlooked by neighbours. So Sue, now you've got no excuse not to sunbathe nude in our garden! :) What I want to know, though, is how come the guy who shot the video of his naked female neighbour wasn't prosecuted?

And then this headline caught my attention:
Sex slave cult uncovered in Darlington

It seems that a splinter group from followers of the World of Gor have set up house. The bit that particularly made me chuckle was this:
"Police...investigated claims from a father in Essex who was concerned that his 18-year-old son was being trained to be "a master of his own sex slaves". Officers spoke to the teenager and said they were satisfied that he was living voluntarily at the property."
Haha! I bet he was!!

And to counter all this sexual debauchery and nudity on this side of the Atlantic there is the puritanical residents of Black Jack, Missouri who don't allow unmarried parents to live in their community.

By the way, only in America could the victim in this piece have the name of Fondray Loving. You can imagine what little Fond had to go through in school.

All a bit different from the debauched UK where it's been proposed that unmarried couples should not only be allowed to live together but should have rights similar to married couples. Then again, they could always decide to get married instead.

And finally, Happy Anniversary to Frank and Anita Milford who have become Britain's longest-married living couple after celebrating their 78th wedding anniversary.

Only 57 years to go, Sue!

It would only be 48 years if we could count the years of "unmarried bliss" too....

Now about this sunbathing...........

I will, if you will........

But first it has to be hot enough...

I don't believe the US has any room to brag anymore about being progressive. We live in a dark age where witches are burned, and religious zelouts rule. I swear we are almost in another mcarthyist era! Just try being an atheist around here. I am definetly NOT equal to most of my peers in their eyes. I am unmarried, with children, heathen atheist who believes in a womans right to chose, and loved Bill Clinton.

Makes me unpopular at debates of political nature.

I don't want to live in that stinking married only community anyhow, ha ha! Unless I can sunbath naked in THEIR gardens in all my naked sin! Boy, how much fun to get in under false pretenses and mess with their heads!

Sue/Ed: Come to Toronto. We're melting in the heat here.

I had to shake my head at the town's occupancy ordinance. Almost as silly as being forced to teach Intelligent Design, IMNSHO

Clare, come on, spill the beans! :)

SS, I'd never heard of Goreans before either. And it does seem a bit freaky videoing your naked neighbour, doesn't it?

Sue Cariad, how about if I go topless you'll go topless? ;)

Jamie, yeah, I wonder what the residents of Black Jack would make of naked sunbathing? Or sex slaves for that matter. I bet the residents of that house in Darlington wouldn't get a housing permit!

Mossy, the weather has improved a bit here in the last couple of days, but still nowhere near naked sunbathing weather.

Congrats on the roof. I'm gonna need a new one in a few years. Also that's great news about the taxes!

If Sue ever decides to sunbathe nude in the back yard, be sure to get pics! ;) LOL

Great news Ed! Finally things will get back to some semblance of normality. Even though the "outside world" (from your "news reports") sounds like it is still in a flux.

I have a relative in Darlington... and I visited there myself... quite a blue-collar town. Of course, I was seeing it from the pub mostly.

i can't even remember the last time i got a tax refund... good for you! hope it eases the strain a bit.

one thing that is the same on both sides of the pond, the joys of home ownership. maybe just stuff some of that money in the holes in your roof...

Chuck, we haven't actually had a new roof - just the old one fixed. The roofers reckon that we'll need a complete new roof in 3 or 4 years time. Not looking forward to that. And I'll be sure to have my camera at the ready. :)

Steve, your relatives aren't Goreans are they? Maybe they are and you don't know. ;)

Laine, I can't remember the last time I got a tax refund either. Good idea about the roof - may as well.
