TV
I'm not a great fan of TV. But there are some programmes that I like to watch, and sometimes late at night I like to blob in front of the TV until the early hours. So what kind of TV to I like to watch?
Doctor Who - this is one of those rare programmes that we all sit down and watch as a family. We're now on Episode 2 of the Second Series of the new Doctor Who. I don't know if anyone gets this outside of the UK yet? The first series with Christopher Ecclestone as The Doctor was excellent and the second series with David Tennant is just as good. And it's mostly filmed in South Wales. In fact, some of the Second Episode (School Reunion) was shot within a couple of miles of our home. And Billy Piper as Rose Tyler (the Doctor's assistant) was an inspired choice. Excellent Saturday evening viewing.
24 - a great format, following each hour as the drama unfolds - excellent.
Battlestar Galactica - I'm not enjoying the second series as much as the first, but it's still good. One thing that bugs me, though: why do they have to keep using the word frack or frackin all the time? I mean, if you're going to use fuck or fucking then why not just do it? Or just don't use it at all. I know it's probably to do with American TV censors (it would be OK over here because the programmes go out after 9.00 pm) but it really does grate on me, especially when it's used at crucial points in the script. Like when the Cylon shot Admiral Cain and Cain says, "Frack you." And the Cylon says, "Sorry, you're not my type," before blasting her in the head. But for me the "frack" completely spoiled that scene.
Suburban Shootout - Saw the first episode of this last week. I wasn't quite sure about it at first, but it turned out to be hilarious. Sexy and funny - a great combination. Can't wait to see how the rest of the series pans out.
Lost - we're somewhat behind the US with this one - Series 2 is just beginning. Son is mad about this programme so we sit down and watch it together. In fact, I've just finished watching episodes 1 and 2 of the new series this evening. I wish they didn't spend quite so much time of flashbacks, though.
Sport such as football and rugby. Of course, when I say football I mean proper football played with a round ball, football as it is known in virtually the entire world outside of North America. And soon the World Cup will be starting.
Movies - I love watching movies. Most days I watch at least one movie, and sometimes two. We're fortunate to have a comprehensive movies package with our satellite TV, although recent movies are pay-per-view so the movies I watch are usually at least a couple of years old. The last one I watched was Million Dollar Baby on Monday evening. On Sunday evening I watched A Bridge Too Far, which I've seen several times before (painful but compelling viewing) and Ravenous which was excellent - funny and horrific at the same time.
Music - I will often sit on the sofa with my laptop with a music channel on - usually MTV2.
In fact, whenever I watch TV I will usually have my laptop close at hand. If a programme is particularly compelling I will put the laptop down but usually I'm working or blogging while I'm watching TV. That way I can convince myself that I'm not totally wasting my time sitting in front of the TV. Fortunately I don't have to look at the keys while I type.
And while I'm here I suppose I had better try to come up with a further five things that I like about me. OK so here goes:
1) I like the fact that I am generally an honest person.
2) Believe it or not I like my increasingly greying hair. I used to be blonde until my mid teens then I suddenly went dark. Now it's going lighter again and I think it suits me. And despite my hairline receding a little I don't have a problem with baldness (neither does my father).
3) I like my arms.
4) I like what I can do with my tongue.
5) I like being in my forties and I like myself more as I get older.
Sue said that I should try not to pick things about me that have to do with her and I nearly succeeded, apart from No 4. ;)

With regard to number 4, of course you mean that "roll it up into a tube trick" that some poeple do not have the correct gene to do don't you? Dont't you?
I loke your greying hair too - and your arms - well - need I say more...
But then again, I rather like you. Full stop!!
you have great taste in telly
I am loving the new Dr Who AND lost.
:)
I used to watch Dr. Who when I was a LOT younger, and I used to love the dog.
AFFIRMATIVE... NEGATIVE...
I'll have to check if we get the new ones!
ROFL "Proper football" Ok, I'll give you that one. I'm not much into TV either, I pick and choose and quite often left with nothing at all to watch.
I'm not a TV person either. I'd rather listen to music.
I love your list today! I find that for the most part, I'm enjoying getting older as well. Becoming much more comfortable with myself.
(((Ed & Sue)))
Sue Cariad, well that wasn't quite what I had in mind with my tongue...
Clare, another Lost fan, eh? And Dr Who is brilliant, isn't it?
Jamie, actually K-9 featured in the lastest episode together with Sarah (former Dr Who assistant). Do watch out for it, the new programmes are fantastic.
DG, I'm not sure how far American's are aware of football (or soccer as you would call it) is a world sport. Are you aware of the upcoming World Cup over there? The US will have a team at the World Cup, of course, but I don't know how much coverage 'soccer' gets.
SS, I think becoming more comfortable with yourself is one of the great benefits of getting older.
OMG, Battlestar Galactica is sooo frackin' awesome!! I can't wait till the third season....I can't stand the wait...
"Proper football"....that's a good one Ed! ;) What the frack?
Oh we know all about the world cup. We aren't quite that ignorant, just don't ask us who the stars of "soccer" are. I think though I'd prefer rugby, that one fascinates me. There is a rugby club at the college. I intend on checking them out.
